Hipotermia terapeutica este o practica din ce in ce mai des folosita de medici in spitale, la cazurile in care este nevoie de proceduri medciale complicate, iar pacientul nu poate rezista altfel. Ideea a pornit dupa ce s-a constatat ca unii copii care cadeau in lacuri reci puteau supravietui perioade lungi de timp, chiar si daca au stat in apa aproximativ o ora.
